The DCSF has published two major research reports on language learning in schools . A report on Languages in Key Stage 3 by Cambridge University describes the impact of the Key Stage 3 Framework and developments in Primary schools on secondary languages and also the role of Specialist Languages Colleges.

The NFER survey into implementation of languages entitlement in Key Stage 2 gives a largely positive overview of progress and also indicated areas for future development.
